not to be a total cynic... but i have been wondering if Michael Steele would have been appointed as chairman of the RNC pre-Obaman? i have to go back and do some homework about candidates for that gig in the past... but in electing a new G.O.P. chairman, this time around, there were two black candidates for the seat, Steele and Kenneth Blackwell. and i just wonder if it's coincidence or not. i'm all about more color, and the G.O.P. could definitely use some more color... but i want people to be selected/elected based on their merits.
it's cool to see that Obama could be, may be opening the door for other people of color - but i just hope it won't become trendy or be seen as a necessity to have your token person of color at the helm. yep, i said it.

I wondered this too. If it weren't Michael Steele, I would say 100%, token black guy. But, they've been grooming him for a more national post for a while. This is probably the logical next step for his, other than Senate. But, Maryland is a pretty Dem state, so that's more unlikely.
I call it a combo of wanting to give him more national prominence conveniently at a time when we're celebrating our first black president.
Plus...he's fairly moderate. I think this could be good for the Republicans in many ways.
